So we've all atleast heard of dota 2 right? The replay system is awesome, here is how it works.

You download a replay off a website just like you would with starcraft 2, but! The replay contains commentary from casters, so you can hear the audio while you move the camera around the field yourself. Even better you can join live games in a dropin dropout fashion, which can have commentary aswel!

So how awesome are these features? do you think they would fit sc2 well?

No no, real provided commentary by people, obviously there will only be commentary if the game has been casted by someone.

idk how big each replay is but i don't think it will be that big because you can get audio down pretty small probs around 20-30 mb for a commentated replay. Its smaller than streaming the game off of jtv or some thing similar.

Really cool. There is obviously the downside of the file footprint but in today's day and age it's really not that much. Wish this kind of shit existed for bnet 0.2

I agree. There's so many ways of dealing with the implications of file footprints, though bnet seem to have troubles preventing drophackers and such... So they will probably find a way to fuck this up too.

The problem I was thinking of, though, was if enough people were jumping into a live game it could flood? With games like Dota and SC2, if they get a second of lag at a bad time it can completely fuck-up a spike/micro. But thinking about it, the obvious solution is that they stream with a delay of about 1 minute so the 'games' people are jumping into are hosted from a completely different port to the real game the players are playing. Also something bnet should have implemented years ago.

Interesting point prohan, i don't think it would cause any lag to the players because i don't think the system would be p2p there would be a dedicated server (similar to tf2 or w/e) which would be streaming the file out. If it was a big game the server would be bigger.

Also drop hackers is a completely different story than a replay system wtf u on about...

eY, I know, but I was more suggesting the point that bnet are useless.

With the dropin and dropout, if you had 2 comps and 2 acounts couldn't you stream cheat super easily? The replay containing commentry is completley awesome though.
